If a large group of people owe you $1,000 from an online contract, does it have to be signed to get your money?

Someone told me that the contract needs to be signed by that person for it to hold up in court if it ever makes it there. Is this true? If they agreed to an online contract and accepted, they should be liable to pay without their "personal" signature.
