Could may parents have been sued for damage for this?

When I was about 10 years old my parents played badminton in the local school while I did my homework. As my pen was leaking, my fingers became covered in ink and I tried to wash them under the taps in the school room. However as it was after school hours the school had switched all the water off automatically. I tried a few taps then gave up, but couldn't remember which way to turn them to switch them off so I may have actually left some taps switched on full. Apparently the next morning before school started the water came on and flooded the the school, requiring the floors to be revarnished. My parents were informed and paid up. My question is whether if they and been taken to court, would have been liable for the damage, as I believe I was effectively I was under the age of criminal responsibility and they were in the same room as me when I turned the taps on.
